Why do secular countries have a far lower murder rate than the United States?

In Europe and Canada, the murder rate is a tiny fraction of America's. Not only that, but why does the 'Bible Belt South' have the highest murder rates, the highest teenage pregnancy rates and the highest dropout rates?
